With the CrossFit Open quickly approaching, we wanted to provide all of our members with some information and insight on how things will run this year at CrossFit North Vancouver.
As many of you know, the Open Consists of 5 workouts over a 5 week period. The first open workout will be announced on February 21nd and the competition will finish on March 25th. Workouts are announced every Thursday at 5pm PST and you must submit your score before 5pm PST on the following Monday.
When can you Complete the Open Workouts?
At CFNV, we will be completing the Open workouts on Fridays during our regular class time slots. We will be running two heats during each class and each athlete will be paired off for judging purposes. The first person will complete the workout while their partner judges. After the first group has finished the workout, we will run the second heat and the first athlete will judge their partner.
Before hitting the workout we will go over the judging standards that are expected. Remember, please be kind to your judges! If you get a no rep, don’t question it – just keep going. It is better to take more time and move efficiently than to move quickly and get no repped!
Be prepared for the Friday classes to run a little bit longer than an hour, depending on what the workout is. And remember, all members are welcome to come to the gym on Friday to participate whether you are registered for the open or not! Come join in the fun and cheer on your fellow members!
Please Note: If you wish to film your workouts, you will be required to make your own arrangements prior to the class.
We don’t recommend doing the workouts twice. Empty your tank the first time. However, if you would like to redo a workout you can on Monday’s during regular class times before 4:30 pm – REMEMBER scores must be submitted online by 5 pm! Alternatively, if you need to complete or redo the workout outside of regular class times you can schedule a private judging session with any of our coaches for a $20 fee.
If you don’t plan on redoing the workout, you can still attend the Monday classes.
Why Sign Up for the Open?
The Open an unbiased measuring stick that comes about once per year. It’s an opportunity to compete with yourself and work harder than you would during a regular workout.
If you want to sign up visit the CrossFit Games website and login, or create a new account if this is your first year competing. Once you have signed up, please join the CrossFit North Vancouver affiliate team. In order to join the team you will need to complete two steps. First, you need to sign up as a member of the affiliate and then you sign up to be a part of the CrossFit North Vancouver team. As a gym we always put in a team but if you have plans to create a super team, that’s up to you!
Remember, the most important thing is to have fun! Go out there and get after it, crew!
