Roe joined CFNV in January 2010 and has been a huge part of the community ever since. If you have met Roe you know that she is incredibly personable, with an infectious laugh and a wonderful, bubbly demeanor. She’s also a strong, competitive athlete with plenty of knowledge to share about CrossFit. Join her for one of her classes and you are guaranteed to laugh lots and get in a great workout at the same time!
To be honest. I could write about Romayne all day! She’s one of the sweetest and kindest individuals I have ever met. She brings this empathy and attention to our members everyday. She has a great coaches eye and is a very good athlete. She loves running if you ever want to go for a run with her! We are blessed to have Roe with us.

How long have you been doing CrossFit? 8 Years!
When did you start? Early 2009!
Do any other members of your family do CrossFit? Nope! Just me!
What were your goals in starting CrossFit? My goal when I started CrossFit was strength! I remember training in the gym with Garth and I would see Annie and Ainslie working out and I would think to myself “I want to be as strong as those girls!”
I looked up to other strong women and wanted to push myself to be as strong as them.
Have they changed? Yes. My goals now are to be mentally more positive about myself and not put myself down. And to get better at cardio… it’s my kryptonite!
What changes have occurred in your health, fitness and general athletic performance since you started CrossFit? I have had a lot of changes over the years. I have tried paleo and macro diets. I’ve seen my body change – I’ve gone from young, skinny fat to muscular. At first, it was hard to see my body change, but now I think strong women are healthy.
How often do you train? 5 days a week
What time do you normally train at? 4:30 or 5:30 in the afternoon
Have you ever gone in a CrossFit Competition? Yes! Lots. I have competed at regionals 6 times. I’ve also done weightlifting competitions, the Guerilla Games, CanWest. This list goes on! I have also competed a lot locally, in Squamish, at the Taranis Challenge… I’ve done a couple!
What type of workout do you enjoy the most? Anything that involves lifting complexes! I really enjoy the bear complex and DT, as well as Olympic Lifting! I also like handstand push ups and walks!
What type of workout do you least enjoy? Anything with running and deadlifts.
Is there anything you’d like to see added to the CrossFit program? No, I think the coaches do a great job with the programming and keep it constantly varied.
Do you follow any particular approach to your regular diet? I do intermittent fasting as well as counting my macros.
What is your favourite activity outside of CrossFit? Riding bikes on the seawall, hiking and hanging out with my friends. Anything fun!
I used to dirt bike on weekends and I love stand up paddle boarding! Also, I really enjoy going away and exploring new places.
What has been your best CrossFit moment? My best CrossFit moment was when we came in second place at the Winter Challenge. It was so exciting – I don’t think we had ever podiumed before that!
A big part of my CrossFit career has been going to regionals with different teams and we have all worked so well together. Regionals has definitely been a big highlight for me.
What inspires you the most? Seeing all the morning people! Also, seeing people do things that they never thought they would be able to do inspires me to do the same.
Watching people I compete with and how hard they work – the results they achieve are so inspirational.
Who do you look for inspiration from? Matt Ciolfi – seeing how hard he works. He’s such a great competitor and he pushes me to work as hard as he does.
Also, Alex Schaalo, she works so hard and she kicks my ass all the time – even on a bad day! We’ve trained together for so long, she always knows what to say and when to push me and when not to.
What sports have you played in the past? Competitive swimming, field hockey, dirt biking, beer league softball, soccer.
What other sports do you currently play? Right now, just CrossFit.
Is there something that people will be surprised to discover about you? I didn’t have front teeth for 7 years… they are real teeth now though!
How long have you been coaching CrossFit? For 7 years!
What other coaching have you done? I coach CrossFit Kids too!
What do you enjoy the most about coaching? Interacting with everybody, I love getting to know people.
Why did you want to coach CrossFit? It started off as something cool that I wanted to do and as I got more involved in it I realized I could help people become healthy and better their lives. I love seeing people be happier and healthier and achieving new goals and I’m grateful to get to help them achieve their goals.
Do you have any pet peeves about coaching? Yes I do! Put your weights away in the proper spots!!
If there were one message you would like to give as a coach, what would it be?
To not worry if you scale a workout. Listen to your body and work on technique and don’t worry about scaling. You still came and got a great workout, scaling is not a negative thing!
Also, when you are tired, just think of getting one more rep in – you are capable of more than you think you are!
What are your favourite things about CFNV? The people. I love being around the people that come to the gym. It’s my second home. I love the programming and the overall community vibe.
What are your favourite things about CrossFit? It keeps me fit and healthy for the firefighting I’m pursuing. I get to spend time with my friends every day and hang out with my boyfriend! It just helps me have the ability to be able to do whatever sport or adventure I want! It keeps my fitness up so I am able to do the things I want do.
Do you have an inspirational quote or words of motivation? “Strength through struggle” and just keep going (like Bull would say!).
