Sam Barker aka Team Mom
We can thank the Crossfit Kids program for paving the way for Sam to join the Crossfit North Vancouver community. “My kids had been doing the teen class at CFNV after school and my neighbor and I over a bottle of wine one night had thought it would be a great idea for us to start. Next morning I wasn’t so sure but we decided to go to a class and try it and it was the best decision we made. Love it!”
Like most new members Sam began with the goal of getting in better shape. “I wanted to get stronger and at the beginning just make it through a workout without dying!” After almost a year of training Sam has lost weight, gained muscle tone and improved her overall fitness. She is a regular at the 7:00 AM class Monday to Friday and wants to see those improvements continue. “Now I want to do the things better, stronger and faster. I find myself now comparing my times to the 6am workout crew. If I am close to them I feel pretty good about that!”
It’s going to be December 1st tomorrow and if I was going to pick a “Member of the Year” it would be Sam. She’s taken the gym by storm with her children, smiles, great attitude, dedication, and results. She is a model for everyone to follow. I’m so proud of what Sam represents. A Mom and Wife who does it all. She’s now doing it all for herself too and feeling great!! Thanks for making CFNV a better place Sam!

How often do you train? 5 days (Monday – Friday)
When do you normally train? 7am class
Favourite type of workout: Long chippers as well as partner WODs. I love how they are very motivating and push me harder
Least favourite movement: Anything with Burpee Box Jumps and at this point double unders – hoping to one day be able to do these!
Is there anything you’d like to see added to the Crossfit program? Not really – love it the way it is
Have you ever gone in a Crossfit competition? No
Would you like to? I need to work on my technique more but wouldn’t rule it out in the future. It would take a pretty big bottle of wine to work up my nerve to agree to it though!
What has been your best Crossfit moment? Doing a class with my 15 year old daughter! Pretty cool feeling to have her working out and me being able to keep up to her! Still pretty new at CF but hitting the black tape on the rope climb has also been a great moment so far! Looking for more best moments!
What inspires you the most? My 7AM peeps! Great crew to workout with

What other sports do you currently play? Skiing, surfing (not great at it but love trying), running
What is your favourite activity outside of Crossfit? Skiing, vacations with the family
Is there something that people will be surprised to discover about you?
In my lifeguarding days I was first guard to the scene of someone who was having a heart attack. Pretty cool to use the first aid skills I had learned and see the guy survive. It also helped his buddy he was with was a doctor!
