Marissa Brennan aka Pork Chop aka Chops
After she graduated from university Marissa found she missed competing in sports and dance. “Joining a Crossfit gym was a good way for me to get back to that competitive team atmosphere.” She wanted to improve her strength and that is still a goal, “don’t we all want to be stronger!” But there are other goals as well. “I’m more focused on mastering the Olympic lifts and my gymnastics skills.” Besides the great stress relief of getting away from the classroom Marissa has enjoyed a wide range of benefits from her Crossfit training. “Crossfit has not only helped me be a stronger “athlete” outside the gym but it has also helped my mental game. Every workout or lift pushes me outside my comfort zone, especially when it comes to lifting. Continually learning to get out of my head when it comes to those bigger weights is something I am still working on.”

Least favourite type of workout: I’m not the fastest or most efficient rower, so I’d say anything with longer distance rowing
Have you been in any Crossfit competitions? Yes! A few team competitions in Ontario.
What has been your best Crossfit moment? I don’t know what my best moment is but I am currently working on butterfly pullups and when I officially get those there may be a small celebratory dance
Is there anything you’d like to see added to the Crossfit program? Nope!
What inspires you the most? I am inspired by the people who surround me, whether that be the person working out next to me, my students, my family, my 94 year old grandmother, anyone who pushes me to be a better person.
Who do you look for inspiration from? Anyone who shows an interest in living a healthy active life. I am lucky to be apart of a Crossfit community where everyone is so positive and dedicated to being their best.
What sports have you played in the past? Soccer and field hockey
What other sports do you currently play? Surfing! I recently have fallen in love with the surfer lifestyle.
What is your favourite activity outside of Crossfit? Anything outside. I’m either hiking, cycling, snowboarding, wakeboarding or camping on a weekend
Is there something that people will be surprised to discover about you? I am classically trained in ballet
