Sometimes you can never guess where an auction item will lead to, for Nolan it brought him to the front door of Crossfit North Vancouver. “I was encouraged to join CrossFit by several parents at my children’s elementary school who had joined and fallen in love with the training. I hadn’t investigated it, and didn’t really know what it was or entailed but I was attending a school fundraising event that included a silent auction and one of the items was a Foundations course and one-month membership that Dave had donated. I bought the gift certificate thinking it was a month of private training.” What he discovered was much more. “I followed through and did the foundations, the month of training, and I was hooked. The workouts, the community theme and overall support of the other CFNV members appealed to me on so many levels.”
Starting with a desire to improve his general fitness and to stay active Nolan found his goals changed over time, discovering a new motivation to challenge himself. “I now strive to set new levels for myself for PR’s and improved times on various WODs.”
“I have always tried to keep myself active and would have considered myself fairly fit before Crossfit. However, I was in my mid-40’s with consistent aches and pains, such as heal spurs, tennis elbow and lower back pain. After training regularly at CFNV he was pleasantly surprised when many of those pains / issues went away. “I realized I previously hadn’t been making any significant effort at weight lifting, strengthening or stretching and now those things have vastly improved my general fitness and conditioning.”
With his four-year anniversary at CFNV approaching in August Nolan is ready to keep striving for more while reaping the rewards of better health and fitness. “Beyond the better shape I’m in, CrossFit has helped improve my enjoyment of other activities I enjoy such as hiking, golf, skiing and Stand Up Paddleboarding.”
Quality. A great guy with a great attitude who shows up every day at 6am with a smile on his face ready to work. It’s been a pleasure to watch him grow and hit PR’s. Not to mention, he supports the best football club in the world.

Is there something that people will be surprised to discover about you?
I was born and raised in small town Saskatchewan (very small town.) I came to Vancouver for a family visit when I was 12 and I knew this was the place for me. When I had finished University, I convinced my wife (at the time fiancé) to let’s try Vancouver for a year. 22 years later, still enjoying the West Coast.
