It was in a waiting room that Sharon first discovered Crossfit. “I was sitting in my chiro’s office and there was an article in the Georgia Straight about Crossfit and how it was changing the world of fitness. I phoned the next day and made an appointment not knowing what I was getting myself into. After many starts and stops I found my way to CFNV.”
Years of running and doing triathalons had left Sharon with a damaged knee and it was time for a change. “I had tried traditional gyms but I just wasn’t motivated to keep going.” Sharon found that motivation at CFNV. “I am not sure I had goals at the beginning it was enough of a challenge to work on the movements which were so foreign to me and survive the work outs. The very first Crossfit Open I decided to register for, I came in dead last, but that changed how I approached Crossfit. I wanted to be a better athlete, become faster, get stronger be a more well rounded athlete.”
And she has gotten better, so much so that she placed 107th in the world this year in the 55-59 division of the Masters Qualifier. “My goal now is to always challenge myself, to keep learning how to be a better athlete. I would love to have a muscle up, bar muscle up and string together toes to bar, all things that I am working on.”
“So many changes have happened for me in these past years. I have completely changed my diet, trying my best to dial into good eating. I am the healthiest and the fittest I have ever been in my life…its so fun to be able to just get out and do things like take up mountain biking at 58 and enjoy it, run after my little granddaughter or keep up with my daughter hiking. “
