Chad Nex “Chex”
Finding Crossfit was something right around the corner for Chad. He was working for a client, BA Blacktop, and was introduced to it by Jesse and Simon. He took the foundations course and was hooked.
Like many people Chad was looking for help to manage his weight and found that and so much more in Crossfit. “Since I was the typical IT Person, overweight and out of shape my main goal was to bring my weight down. And touch my toes!! Actually I was very hesitant to start at Crossfit. I watched some videos and was blown away watching these “Elites” perform. Then I took the foundations and found out that everyone starts somewhere. This is where I started.”
Since joining Crossfit North Vancouver Chad has seen an improvement in his flexibility and that mobility has allowed him to see gains in all his Olympic lifts. The willingness to push himself has provided plenty of personal best scores. “Every time I PR or complete a WOD. I am ready to push myself harder the next time. I am always thinking about the next Heavier PR or the faster time.”
The CFNV community has been a big part of Chad’s successes. “I have never seen this type of encouragement. Anyone you talk to gives amazing encouragement or great pointers to help with your technique.” The entire gym is incredibly supportive but when asked who he looks for inspiration from Chad had this to say. “Within the Crossfit community, two people come to mind. Chris Schaalo and Terry Peters. For Chris, I took some personal lessons from him and found his attention to every detail of form in lifts was amazing. Every time I am lifting I have that in the back of my mind.
Then Terry, Terry is an amazing athlete. From watching him at the Crossfit games, to being in Bull’s Burners his drive and never fail attitude in contagious. I don’t think I have ever seen him not smiling or giving encouragement to everyone in the gym.”
Chad is awesome. Always a smile on his face and full of humour. Chad pushes to the limit and has seen some huge gains. He’s changed his life for the better and is a positive influence on everyone!!

How often do you train? 3-4 Times a week
When do you normally train? I am at the Noon Class
Favourite type of workout: I really like any that have the Olympic lifting components.
Least favourite movement: I always laugh and say “I am built for comfort not speed” so the cardio workouts. (like Fran, or anything that requires double unders!) are my worst enemies
Is there anything you’d like to see added to the Crossfit program? I would really like to see more of the gymnastics components. I really want to be able to walk on my hands. And more Kettle Bells! There can never be enough!
Have you ever gone in a Crossfit competition? Not yet but I would really like to try some of the local competitions as an individual or a team style event.
What other sports do you currently play?
I am on two slow pitch teams from Ladner and Coquitlam. I have played on our team in Ladner for over 8 years now. This will be my first year on the Coquitlam team.
What is your favourite activity outside of Crossfit? My two favorite activities are Mountain Biking and Paintball. The fast pace and adrenalin rush is the greatest.
Is there something that people will be surprised to discover about you?
For a couple of years I was training in medieval combat. I learned How to use a hand and half sword and a bastard sword. That was really fun. I dabbled in competitive boxing for a couple of years, but found that to be a little bit harsh on my body.
