Each year the Open comes rushing in like a tornado, sweeps us all up for 5 weeks, and then leaves us behind a little shaken up as we move towards Regionals. For some, PR’s and elation, for others, disappointment and a drive moving forward to be better. Overall, each year, we all learn something about ourselves and the people we train with. It’s a time of reflection and opportunity to move forward always striving to be better because that tornado know as the Open 2017 is only a short year away.
It was amazing to see each person work on their strategy and then execute. This year seemed like their was a little bit of comfort at CFNV. A little bit more understanding and determination within each of you. A confidence per say. I know this was my most enjoyable Open to date and I thank you all for making in fun and inspiring us all at CFNV!
To cap off 2016, a great community event sponsored by Reebok! Watching Emily Abbott, Michele Letendre, and Rebecca Voigt throw down in our box was surreal. Becca, the 8 time Games participant, was so awesome! So humble and great to see her mingle with our community coaching someone through 16.5 only minutes after she finished. Emily, always smiling, and being completely honest in the Q&A period was so cool. She put everything into giving us a show and was not right for a good 30min after 16.5. Then there’s Michele, setting the world record for 16.5 at the time and showing us all what it looks like to roll up your sleeves and do work with a smile on your face. She was gracious and thankful for the crowd support. So much fun!!
Congratulations to Sharon, Sally, Terry, and Ian for making it through to the Masters Qualifier!! For Terry, it’s same old, same old, but he’s always working hard and always nervous even if he looks like a rock! Ian, with a bad shoulder, was a few places away from cracking the top 100 in the world for his category! Sally, after taking a year off, approached the open with a smile on her face and a renewed sense of doing it for fun, because that’s what it should be. Her performances were great and she had fun. =) Last, but, not least, Sharon. She works her tail off everyday and probably only falls behind Matt and Nick in terms of time spent in the gym working. She’s come miles in the past few years, but, really, this past year has been a big year of change learning and becoming more comfortable with her “goats”. Her goal is the Games in 2018 and if she keeps it up I have no doubt she will do it!! Support these four April 21-25th when the workouts are announced!!
TEAM CFNV currently sits in 20th place. The top 15 get to go to Regionals. Over the next couple weeks the Individuals who accept their invitation to Regionals will have their scores removed from their respective teams and in some cases this will drop their teams score and allow teams like ours to move up in the standings. Last year we moved up and got to go! Fingers Crossed!! It was amazing to see everyone contribute to the team. Specifically these people scored for the team – Corey, Matt, Nick, Chris, Alex, Brooke, Camilla, Patricia, and Roe!!
