While Sarah is one of our newest members she is not a stranger to Crossfit. A couple of years ago Sarah was doing a lot of hot yoga classes at a studio in Burnaby when a Crossfit location opened up across the street. “I had heard about Crossfit before and was interested in trying it out, so I took this as a sign! I started doing Crossfit to supplement my yoga practice, now I supplement my Crossfit training with yoga.”
That was over two years ago and Sarah is still eagerly pursuing her Crossfit goals. “When I started my goal was to be able to do a kipping pullup – they looked so cool!” They are no problem for Sarah now and she is looking to improve her other skills. “I am still working on gymnastics, because they have always been a challenge for me – I just learned how to do a cartwheel 2 years ago! I would like to learn and be more proficient at muscle ups, handstand walks, etc. and would like to get much, much stronger.”
Despite already being fit when she started Crossfit Sarah has seen many fitness improvements. “I used to race sprint flatwater canoe which requires a lot of core and upper body strength, so that was the bulk of what my training entailed. When I started Crossfit I had squatted only a handful of times in my life, and my lower body strength was pretty sad. Since starting Crossfit I have seen a huge improvement in my leg strength (still much to go!), but it has been very exciting to feel those changes.”
The competition bug is still there for Sarah and she has already competed in a both individual and team competitions, such as the Confederation Cup, Okanagan Valley Throwdown, Squamish Fall Challenge and the CFNV Winter Challenge.
Sarah has found plenty of inspiration close to home. “My mom inspires me, she is my best friend and an amazing woman.
I am inspired all the time by people taking the time day in and day out to achieve their goals. It does not matter what the goal is, but their consistency and dedication are a reminder that every day is a choice. Goals and dreams can be achieved, you just have to choose it, and choose it often.”
I’ve know Sarah for a couple years now through the CrossFit Community. She’s always smiling and always working hard. We are excited to add another quality person to CFNV. Welcome Sarah aka …
