Sarah discovered Crossfit because she was looking for a fitness class at 8:00 PM and CFNV had one at that time, so in January 2011 she started her foundations with Coach Roe. Already leading an active lifestyle, Sarah quickly rose to the challenge of the Crossfit approach. Initially her goals were to “learn double unders and clean 100 lbs.” She has moved far beyond those and when asked how her early goals have changed she said’ “They have changed A LOT, I had no idea when I started. Now my goals are much more specific and I now realize how much focus it takes to achieve the more lofty goals. In my case I am strong but coordination has been the limiting factor, but I believe that can be overcome with enough practice and of course coaching which is awesome at CFNV.”
Crossfit has provided her the opportunity to take a positive approach to personal fitness. “I have adopted the happy with what my body can do now instead of working out with a what my body should look like attitude which is a big shift for a lot of women. I hope I can be a good role model for my daughter as a result of this shift.”
In the past Sarah has shown Quarter Horses on the circuits in Ontario, Quebec and New York State and that competitive spirit hasn’t disappeared. Sarah has competed at Crossfit events both as an individual and on a team. “Both are fun but I like being on a team the most.”
When asked who she looks for inspiration from, Sarah replied, “Inspiration can come from anyone and does on a daily basis. Two of the most inspirational performances I witnessed were Terry winning Amanda at the 2015 Crossfit Games and Scott Tasaka competing at the same games against a field of much larger men, and making the finals. Both were big heart performances which is a reminder that attitude is a huge aspect in achieving success.”
Sarah’s best Crossfit moment isn’t one instance but rather “the camaraderie experienced daily is an aspect that has affected my life in a very positive way.”
Whether it’s running along Dollarton or doing CrossFit Sarah is always active and always strives to be her best! She’s smart, uncanny, and very fit!! It’s been our pleasure to have Sarah and her family as part of the CFNV family for a few years now!
