Welcome to what can officially be called “The Off Season” if you are someone who didn’t make the CrossFit Games. Most athletes who compete see Regionals as there big event of the year and then there are a few special ones who move forward to the Games. Thus, June to September can be seen as the Off Season. That being said, everyone still needs to train! Why? Because time off breeds complacency and mediocrity. That being said, we can’t have the pedal to the metal all year around. So, here are some cool tips heading into the off-season and moving into the summer months to keep things fresh!
1) Get outside and play. Run, Hike, Bike, Swim, or even play some Bocce, Volleyball, Soccer, Bean Bag Toss!! It’s important to NOT resent your time in the gym. If you are feeling like you are missing out make sure to get outside play in as well. In terms of programming, we will be spending time outside too. Running, Pushing, Jumping, etc.
2) Hydrate! JP spoke to one of his classes the other day and it’s super important to hydrate. I am bad at this myself, but, I up my game now as best as I can. I simple rule, divide your bodyweight by two and that’s how many ounces of water you should drink per day. Myself as example. (190/2=95) This means I should drink 2.8 Litres of water a day minimum. Add 500ml to a L for my WOD and then add 500ml for every cup of coffee you drink. Wow – That means I should drink roughly 4.3L of water per day!! Don’t feel like doing the math, fine, Ladies get a minimum of 2.5 Litres a day in addition to all other fluids and Guys get 3.5 Litres a day!
3) Have Fun! Sometimes we get bogged down and forget to have fun. Most of all, enjoy what you are doing. Training for a specific goal or training around a competition/Open/Regionals can be stressful and now that the off season is here, simplify. Work hard, but, make sure you are having fun! Save your energy for the upcoming months when sh*t gets real!
Capacity and CrossFit
This is what it’s all about. Building your general capacity and sticking to CrossFit. We will use CrossFit dot Com for the framework of our conditioning throughout the summer as we always do, but, look for us to do some longer wods and keep running involved as we attempt to get outside!
Arguably one of our weaknesses if you analyze our gym as a whole. Probably the greatest weakness of all gyms apart from the athletes that have a gymnastics background. Why? It takes time to develop and the work is often tedious. The summer we are going to get better! Some good foundational work couple with really fun wods! Starting June 15th we will be working on a specific Monday/Wednesday/Friday template for 4 weeks designed to work core stability, shoulder stability, and build your handstand hold/pushup/walk!! There will be an Rx and Fitness version. It’s going to be great. If you can make them all, great! If not, as always, we will do what we can!
Here we go! Suns out Guns Out!!
