It’s been almost 2 weeks and I’ve had plenty of time to reflect on the 2013 CrossFit Games Canada West Regional. We, CrossFit, have two goals for the Regional competition and they are simple. (1) Send the best athletes from the region to the Games and (2) Create a great community event.
Keeping those goals in mind, Congratulations to all of the World CrossFit Games qualifiers. Lucas Parker and Tyson Takasaki will compete against Rich Froning and all the other Beasts while Heather Gillespie and Erin Light take on all of the best women from around the world. CrossFit Fraser Valley Centaurs and CrossFit Taranis will be representing us in the team competition and both have experience at the Games. We will all be watching and cheering for you – we are proud of you!
On to the event. This years event was the best competition Canada West has ever seen and it was also the best community event Canada West has ever seen. I have no problem being bold and throwing that out there. There were approximately 200 volunteers that worked throughout the weekend and each and every person worked their butt off, had a great time, and brought something unique to the table which allowed this event to be so successful. During the event people didn’t want to go home. People stayed or came back the next day for an additional shift to be a part of the best event in Canada West History. Personally, I can’t thank you all enough for rallying behind our athletes and community members to make this a success.
To my home box, CrossFit North Vancouver, you are all amazing. We represented almost 75 of the 200 volunteers. Thank you for standing behind me and making the event a success. Without you, this would not have been possible to pull off. You were integral in the build out and the take down of the event. I’d like to single out JP Zambo, Coach Csubi, who ran the forklift and unloaded/loaded two semi trucks full of gear! Thanks Csubi. To our team Lindsey, Mandy, Roe, Jian, Pete and Rich. You guys were amazing to watch and we are all so proud of you. 11th place in Western Canada is awesome!!
To my crew. Chris Schaalo, Jesse Bifano, Chris Cooper, Sarah Smith. You guys worked your butt off. You guys made me look good. I have said it before and I will say it again. When it comes to the success of this event I often collect the accolades. However, the only thing I will openly take credit for is choosing the best people. Thank you all. Next year will be even better as our group of key people is growing with the likes of Heidi Smith, Ian Chapman, Jeremy Bomhoff, and many many more. Another big thanks to Tim Chan for his support from CrossFit HQ, Kim Layton from Rogue, Dan Aversa from Reebok, Bobby from CrossFit Branding, and last but certainly not least our Head Judges Todd Widman and Tommy Rudge. Looking forward to 2014!
