“Success doesn’t come, you go get it”
The alarm goes off and I look at it. It is 5:00 am and I want to hit the snooze button and go back to sleep but no! I need to get up, I can’t risk going back to sleep because I need to open the gym. The coffee machine has brewed the wonderful liquid that is going to help me along the way. Thank heavens for the delay brew button. Outside it is dark. Outside it is cold. The rain is coming down and it is now too far gone to go back to the cozy and warm surroundings in my bed, besides, my wife is snoring.
I arrive fifteen minutes early and have to be alert or else Curt will run me over in his giant truck. At quarter to six the speed limit seems to be different. As I enter the gym turning off the alarm I need to hurry and get to the back door as Pippi and a host of others will be waiting and freezing! What music do we put on? This is the tough part…who really needs to get wound up at six am? Most of the World is asleep still yet these die hard, dedicated athletes are there ready to go.
This is a toast to all of those who show up daily at six am to make sure they get in their WOD. Life is too hectic to get to the gym during the day or at night. Kids to care for, hockey games to get to, soccer practices to run, and dinner to make. These athletes take it to another level. They show commitment to me in ways I never knew existed. Doing pull ups and cleans and thrusters with tons of weight when most are asleep and your body is still in shock from getting up. At this time of day, your bones really do creak.
During the day there are numerous different classes, all with their own personality but this group needs to be complimented because they push the boundaries beyond just the physical. They take the mental aspect of Crossfit to a new level.
I have grown to rely on my morning crew. I appreciate seeing Chad, Bruiser, Curly, Nicole, Simon, Jesse, Curt, Skookum, Anya (even when she is late), Circus, Chris, Pippi, Patch, Flip, Pretty Boy and all the others I may have missed because I am too tired, as they come in hair disheveled yet smiles on their faces as they get ready to tackle the day ahead of them one step at a time.
This crew is only one piece of the pie that makes up our very own Crossfit North Vancouver, but for me they are a giant big piece and they could be awesome motivation for anyone and everyone. They exemplify, commitment, dedication, perseverance, and humbleness!
Keep Going Crew. See you in the morning.
