It’s been a while since we posted on the blog. It’s been a whirlwind with renovations, Christmas, moving, and now New Years!! This past year has been a big year of growth for our community and our athletes. I can’t wait to see more growth in 2013 as we now have the room to add more members to our community and touch more lives. Before we talk about 2013 we need to wrap up 2012.
The beginning of 2012 saw Terry aka Bull host the first ever King and Queen of CrossFit North Vancouver event and Kait and Jian turned out to be the King and Queen. The event was fantastic and provided a great place for everyone and anyone to participate in a friendly competition. Moving on, there were close to 30 people who participated in the CrossFit Games Open in 2012. Several Athletes qualified as individuals and CFNV was one of a few gyms that had TWO teams qualify!! I hosted the Games on behalf or our community which provided many of the volunteers and judges at the Richmond Olympic Oval and I see Regionals 2012 as the CFNV coming out party! Our Black team finished in the top ten and third on the final wod. It was the taste that we needed and our appetite will not be satisfied until the 2013 Regionals. One athlete, Bull, bypassed Regionals and qualified for the world games in 15th and would travel to California in July to compete!!
July started with an amazing surprise birthday wod and BBQ for myself and Pistol which was a ton of fun. We then headed down south to California for the World Finals of the CrossFit Games!! Terry aka Bull represented CrossFit North Vancouver in the Masters division and I was very proud of Bull as well as being proud our gym was represented at the Games! Bull was awesome and did everything in typical Bull fashion with hard work and guts. He seemed to be relaxed and in his element the entire time. Terry was in the top ten until he met his nemesis – double unders! Terry made his goal of improving his placing from the open finishing 14th in the World!!
August saw the King and Queen of CFNV event again. This time the summer version and we opened it up to people outside our community. The even was awesome! Outside at the park in the sun with workouts that reminded me of sports day when we were kids! Great great time!! The King stayed the same as Jian repeated, but, this time he did so with a new Queen, Mighty Mouse. August also saw the addition of Chris “Yoda” Schaalo to the coaching staff and the introduction of our CrossFit Competitor program lead by Chris and Alex. August lead nicely into September where we had the 3rd Annual Client Appreciation BBQ at Sue Ann and Scott’s beautiful home. We saw over a hundred people come and eat amazing food cooked by Christine again and play beer pong with me! LOL Good times were had and it was difficult to announce we hadn’t found a new location quite yet.
October came around and things at the gym were growing increasingly busier with the promise of a new, bigger space, for all existing members and new comers. Finally, mid October, we had secured a new location!! Everyone was super happy, but, most of all I think we were all relieved. The training for Taranis stepped up a notch and we rolled into Taranis 50 people strong and ready to take over the place. Each and every person who competed worked hard and made CFNV proud! The support from everyone in the stands was second to none, the team dinner packed, and a quarter final team win I will never forget. Oh, and don’t forget, Adriana going to the Semi-Finals and making us all cry as she narrowly ran out of time.
This brings us to December. Usually a month of down time before the rush of the new year. This December has been anything but downtime. It’s been very busy, but, it’s been filled with the same joy as when I married Christina, the same happiness when Grace came into the world. Next to those two events, the new gym is my biggest achievement in life and I am so happy we get to share it with all of you. It would not have been possible without all of you!
Let’s ring in 2013 together and bring our amazing community to our new gym!! 2013 is where CFNV takes the next steps towards being even better.
The 1st workout will be at 10:30am New Years day. January 2nd we open our full schedule.
