I would be hard pressed to capture all of the amazing stores that went on during the challenge this weekend, but, I will try to say something about everyone who competed in the event. Before I talk about competitors I would like to talk about our community and thank the 25 people who traveled over from our gym to support our athletes. Without your support we would not have achieved what we did, nor would we have had such a great time! Dinner was fantastic as 36 of us met at The Local Kitchen and ate like any family would at dinner. Good food, great wine, and even better people. Christina, Grace, and myself thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. On to the athletes in no particular order.
Corey aka Popeye – Finished 12 out of 60 Individual Men
Each year Corey gets better and better. He did amazingly well as a competitor considering he was also running all of the scoring through flex fwd for the event. Which I might add, was a huge success! It was great to have a live leaderboard and we also got to see each others tweets too! Congrats Corey!
Gerry aka 13 – Finished 25 out of 60 Individual Men
I’m super proud of Gerry. This may seem funny for some of you to hear, but, I am almost 10 years Gerry’s senior and thus I feel justified in saying I am proud. Proud like an older brother. Gerry earns everything through hard work and unparalleled determination. We have all seen Gerry go into beast mode at the gym and he went there all weekend to surpass some pretty great competitors. Well done bro!
CFNV Team A
Alex aka The Beast. Alex played an integral role as team captain and lead by example all weekend. His barbell work was amongst the best of all competitors and I heard many people in the crowd utter things like “holy shit” and “wow, look at that guy move the barbell”. Alex also PR’d on his 400m Ball Run, twice.
Rob aka Big Deal. Athleticism at it’s best. Rob didn’t do anything spectacular in one area, he just did everything well all weekend. Rob also managed to keep full rotation of his neck at this years competition. A first for him. LOL.
Bri aka SupaStar. This was Bri’s first competition and I think it lit a fire under her butt. She is an amazing athlete and a fierce competitor which showed all weekend. Taranis will serve as a great stepping stone for the future as she learns what she needs to work on and gains experience in the trenches.
Dani aka Mighty Mouse. Mistaken for a 6 year old on the Ferry and then in the same evening busted out 40+ handstand pushups in WOD #1. Name me a 6 year old that can do that!! LOL Dani always catches everyone eye as she is small, but, ridiculously strong for her size. Amazing to watch, especially since I know she didn’t get to prepare like she would have for this competition.
CFNV Team B
Sharon aka Firecracker. She may be up for a nickname change as everyone called her Mama T all weekend. I am so proud of Sharon. I have known her for about 5 years now and all I can say is she amazes me most days at the gym. This weekend was no different. I don’t like to bring it up, but, she is 50+ years old and she just kicked butt at her first ever CrossFit Competition! Bam! Inspirational.
Lindsey aka Machine. This was also her first competition and it was awesome to watch Lindsey take it all in. She was visibly nervous and then turned it on like a “machine” once we hit the training floor. This was a major step in Lindsey learning what CrossFit is all about and I am super excited to see her grow this year! Look out for big things.
Terry aka The Bull. Inspiring as always and a steady calm voice for all the newbies on his team. Terry is a veteran to this competition and had to deal with three newbies. Terry lead by example and thank god he agreed to do the 800m portion of the Ball Run on Saturday. Personally I think competing with Terry was the best part of my weekend. Thanks for the support Bull!
Dave aka Lu. I’m not going to say much about myself because that would be weird. I had an amazing time and I was inspired to do my best all weekend by all of my teammates! Thanks everyone for support me, my family, and our gym.
IF YOU HAVE PICTURES OF THE WEEKEND PLEASE GET THEM TO ME!! I HAVE NONE!!
